What are Content Retention Models?

As you have just registered on the platform no doubt you’ve encountered the term ‘Content retention model’ in our information page.

This article will focus on what content retention models are, how they are used and benefits of using them. Let’s begin.

Content Retention Models(CRM) refers to the framework utilized by instructors inorder to deliver a quality learning experience. Relevant and accurate information pertaining to a given course is gathered, evaluated and processed by expert instructors, afterwards, the completed material is sent to system managers to convert the approved materials into different learning formats i.e;

  • Text documents.
  • Slides.
  • Interactive videos.
  • Animations
  • Automated assessments.
  • References.

The above are simply a few of the formats a few of the over 2 dozen formats supported by the platform.Once the final learning material is ready instructors are then permitted to utilize our course content drip functionality to separate their course material into several independent lessons. This is done for several reasons namely;

  1. To avoid bombarding students with excessive information.
  2. To enable an instructor to gauge students’ understanding more clearly.

  4. To alert instructors directly through conferencing methods regarding topics the student feels they did not understand well, thus prompting the instructor to amend the lesson material wherever possible.
  5. To enable system managers to monitor whether or not instructors are creating course content in line with strict educational integrity and standards.
  6. To allow instructors teaching multiple courses to track the academic progression of their students and aid them should the need arise.

 

The main strength of this platform is that it divides learning into different stages;

  1. Testing Stage – Here only light material is shared with the student i.e course outline, some introductory segments and a brief general purpose quiz. The purpose of this stage is to gauge the student’s initial retention capacity.
  2. Evaluation Stage – After determining the student’s initial retention capacity, instructors are then required to evaluate whether the course material and lessons they have prepared can be effeciently tranfered to the learner, if not they must make adjustments to suit the retention capacity of the student.
  3. Commencement Stage – Following any required changes the full course material package, allocated lesson types, testing systems and other online learning tools are made available to enrolled students for full learning to begin.
  4. Analysis Stage – This is the follow up stage. Action in this stage is carried out every 2-4 weeks and includes the instructor monitoring student course progression through use of the gradebook tool, which gives them information on course completion rate. Any inadequacies brought to light can be addressed by the instructor contacting the individual directly or offerning guidance through the integrated group element.
  5. Review and Completion stage – This is the final stage within a content retention model and can be said to be a farewell to enrolled students. Students who complete any given course are not only given a certificate as recognition for their efforts but are also granted a final study package which entails sample exam style questions along with several verified references and E-books from their instructor who has been guiding and monitoring their progression thus far. This is a farewell gift from the instructor as the students get ready to sit for End of Semester or End of Year examinations fully equipped with the best knowledge, sourced and delivered by the best qualified instructors.

The proper utilization of content retention models ensures students have nothing to fear as they leave our hands equipped with sufficient academic and technical skills to follow their dreams.
